Shape the future of your profession

The ARMA Southwestern Ontario chapter runs on the energy of volunteers who believe records and information management is worth investing in. Joining the board is how you stop being a participant and start being a builder — of the programming, the community, and the next generation of RIM professionals in our region.

Why it matters

Our chapter exists because people choose to give their time to it. Board members set the direction for events, education, and outreach that our members rely on to stay current and connected. When you serve, you’re not just adding a line to your résumé, you’re making sure this community is here, and thriving, for the colleagues who come after you.

Beyond the impact, board service is one of the most accessible ways to grow as a professional. You’ll lead initiatives, manage projects, and build consensus across a group surrounded by people who want you to succeed.

What you’ll gain

  • Leadership experience you can point to, developed by actually doing the work rather than waiting for permission at your day job
  • A wider network of RIM professionals across industries, organizations, and career stages
  • Visibility within ARMA at the chapter and international level
  • A direct say in the events, topics, and priorities that shape our chapter
  • The satisfaction of giving back to a profession that has given you a career

The time commitment

We respect that you have a full life outside of this. Board service is designed to be meaningful without being overwhelming.

  • Monthly board meetings: 10 – 12 hours
  • Role-specific work (if applicable): 4 – 6 hours
  • Term length: One year, renewal with notice of intent

Most members find the commitment fits comfortably alongside a working schedule, and responsibilities are shared across the team — you’re never carrying it alone.

Open positions

  • President Elect
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Director, Communications
  • Director, Programs
  • Director, Membership
  • Director at Large

New to the board? No experience required for many roles — we’ll support you as you learn. If you’re interested but unsure where you’d fit, reach out and we’ll find the right place for you.
